Monster Bobby At The Edge of the Sea

I have just been added to the bill of The Wedding Present / Cinerama's excellent annual Brighton-based knees-up, At The Edge of the Sea Festival. It takes place across two stages at the Concorde2 down on the seafront on the weekend of August 23rd/24th. I will be playing as the doors open, at 3pm on Sunday so get down early and try not to make too much noise as you order your first pint.

Monster Bobby By The Sea!

Hot on the heels of last year's roller coaster tour of the Lac Léman shores, this year I shall be embarking on a brief musical tour of English seaside resorts in Kent and Sussex.

My journey begins in Brighton, at the Horse and Groom, on Islingword Road, where I shall be supporting The Bobby McGees and Tor. The concert starts at eight in the evening on Thursday the twenty-eighth of February and entrance is free of charge.

Next stop, Ramsgate, where I shall be ensconced in the loving arms of the Caboose Cafe on Queen Street where visitors can enjoy a wide selection of warm food and cold drinks. Or, for that matter, cold food and warm drinks. Entrance to this one will be £5 and it will commence at half past seven on the evening of Friday, March the first.

Our final stop will take us up the coast to Margate, to the delightful Tom Thumb Theatre on the Eastern Esplanade. This last concert of my coastal tour will take place on Saturday, the second of March, from half past seven. Entrance will be charged at five pounds. There will, I am assured, be an as-yet-unannounced support act.

I do hope I will have the pleasure of your company on at least one of these occasions.

The following selections are not entirely unrepresentative of the sort of mid-century balladry crossed with post-millenarian dancing music that I shall be performing.

Monster Bobby DJing in London and Brighton

I have a new mix up on MixCloud for your listening pleasure. It is united by no particular theme or style, but it does contain a veritable bounty of top tunes. It also behoves me to tell you that I will be DJing a couple of times over the next week or so. First off, at the Hangover Lounge, this Sunday (June the 24th) in the afternoon. Then, at the Green Door Store, Brighton on Friday the 29th, in between live music by Virals, Sean Nicholas Savage, and No Problems (facebook event page). The latter will start at 11pm and close at four am. Both events are free. In the meantime, have a listen to the embedded player below which may or may not represent some of the sorts of things that I might play at one or other or both of these events.

Monster Bobby! Live! in Brighton!

Just confirmed, I shall be playing a Monster Bobby gig in Brighton on Sunday December 4th at the Green Door Store, just by the station. I'm on at 7:30, playing for about half an hour. It's free to get in. So do pop in and say hello. I'm quite excited, actually. It's ages since I've played on my own in Brighton. 

Also playing will be Battant, who describe themselves as "lo-fi, electric" and the Guardian apparently describe as like "Adrian Mole on a narcotic comedown". Plus, Foreign Skin, who promise to be "ambient, electronic, dubstep". If you don't believe me, there's a Facebook event page here with all the details. 

There is also talk of cheese and cake. So, worth it just for that, surely?
